Rethink what freedom feels like. by afterthedream Rethink what freedom feels like. by afterthedream
America: a country where the federal government claims the authority to monitor every phone call you make, every e-mail you send, and every website you visit. They claim the authority to kidnap you and torture you to death in secret, or to simply assassinate you outright. And then they tell you that freedom is buying a beauty product that is probably carcinogenic. This is not the way it was supposed to be. This is not the way it was supposed to be.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed...

The funniest thing is that the government claims that all this spying is to prevent terrorist actions from occurring from within America for the sake of the war against terror, but the truth is there has yet to be any evidence that their invasion of privacy has really aided in preventing any terror threats at all. In fact there has been evidence to show the contrary (at least this is what i'm told) where the vast efforts to spy on American people leaves the intelligence agency overburdened with junk information that it proves to be counter intuitive and even damaging to the efforts of reducing terrorist threats within America. Within America terrorist threats are more likely to occur from the extremist right wing than from radical Islam, those threats seem to be far more concentrated within Europe and the Middle East than in America.

all the serious talk aside, isn't American freedom the barrel of a gun?

Well, the Pentagon now defines "protest" as "a form of low-level terrorism". So there are clearly a lot of terrorists to keep an eye on in the homeland.

"When you cut out a mans tongue you're not proving him a liar, you're just showing the world that you're afraid of what he might say." Quote i've seen pop up now and then from the Game of Thrones series. I think it rings true in this case, the powers that be are running a dodgy system to say the least and it is also a rather precarious system at that. They seem to fear the general populace getting wise and angry which is slowly occurring anyway so they will attempt to maintain the status quo by expanding on things like the definition of terrorism etc in order to keep a fragile leash on society a while longer. It's rather effective for the short term, but not for the long term. At least, not in the way the American government has been running things.

I finally worked up the nerve to Google myself. Evidently there are rosters of me for sale. 9 people looking for me... and, well, that was enough for me. I promptly clicked the red x and shivered a bit.

A least the Google spies are morons, they've combined me with several other people. So I'm 48 on bad days, and myself on good days... but still, the principle, man!

Hopefully I never become controversial enough so the kill my ass like they did to Steele and all the other political dissidents that they turn up dead with drugs in their veins that they never done before.

Don't worry, they usually only bump off insiders with first-hand knowledge of crimes.
